Files

This directory contains applications compiled in the rawhide(glibc2.1x) environment.
[DIR] RPMS
The directory "RPMS" contains binary or noarch RPMS. If you don't find corresponding SRPMS in the SRPMS directory, they are from either ftp://ftp.ccex.miyazaki-u.ac.jp/pub/JRPM60/ or ftp://ftp.linuxppc.org/pub/ or simple rebuilds of corresponding DR3 packages by "rpm --rebuild". You had better go to these sites and get the latest packages. On the other hand, the packages with SRPMS are prepared by me, so use them at your own risk.

In order to download an RPM file with Netscape, move the mouse cursor to a target link and, in the case of Unix, press the right button, or in the case of Mac, keep the mouse button pressed until a context-sensitive menu shows up. Then select "Save Link As" and save the RPM file as "Source".

[DIR] SRPMS
The directory "SRPMS" contains unofficial source RPMS I created when I couldn't find any corresponding RPMs or when the one available didn't work on my MkLinux box.
[DIR] SPECS
The directory "SPECS" contains unofficial SPEC files.
[DIR] SOURCES
The directory "SOURCES" contains unofficial patch files used to build the unofficial RPMs mentioned above.
[DIR] cernlib
The "cernlib" directory contains CERNLIB99/2000. CERNLIB is now free.
[DIR] diary
The "diary" directory contains records of my MkLinux life (in Japanese).
[DIR] dis45
The "dis45" directory contains a graphic display application for data analysis using CERNLIB.
[DIR] fukui
K.Fukui's Rawhide installation kit. A great contribution by K.Fukui to the MkLinux community.
[DIR] jdk
The "jdk" directory contains a Java Developer's Kit ported to MkLinux by the PowerPC JDK porting team. Get the latest from their official web site. Notice that this also requires a license agreement.
[DIR] jlc
The "jlc" directory contains various programs developed for linear collider physics.
[DIR] netscape
The "netscape" directory contains the famous netscape browser ported to MkLinux. The binary packages were retrieved from the official Netscape mirror site. Get the latest ones from there or other mirrors, if possible.
[DIR] root
The "root" directory contains a fully object-oriented data analysis library called "ROOT" developed by the CERN ROOT team. Unlike CERNLIB, it is free for non-commercial use. Get the latest one from the ROOT download page".
[DIR] xtt
The "xtt" directory contains a set of packages necessary to introduce TrueType features to your X server. The TrueType X sever was first ported to MkLinux by M.Utsugi. See his site for details.

Installation Instructions

To use precompiled binaries in the RPMS directory, you have to first install Mklinux-R1(Rawhide) or LinuxPPC-1999. In other words, you system has to be glibc2.1x based! They are incompatible with MkLinux-DR3 or LinuxPPC-R4!

If you find a file named like

foo-bar-1a.ppc.rpm
what you have to do is
$ rpm -qpl foo-bar-1a.ppc.rpm
to check the installation destination. If you are satisfied, then do
$ su
# rpm -Uvh foo-bar-1a.ppc.rpm
to install the package forcibly, meaning replacing any existing package. If you find a file named like
foo-bin.tar.gz
instead, what you have to do is
$ su
# tar -zxpvf <somewhere>/foo-bin.tar.gz -C /
It is strongly recommended, however, to check the installation destination before doing the above by
$ tar -ztvf <somewhere>/foo-bin.tar.gz
In any case the binary files have been tested on my machine (8115/110) but may not work on yours. Install them thus at your own risk.
