Descriptions of the Current Directory

Ported Applications for MkLinux DR3

Japanese Page is here.

News

Files

This directory contains applications compiled with (pre-)DR3.
JRPMS
The directory "JRPMS" contains RPMS with Japanese extensions. Those without SRPMS were prepared by the JRPM Project. You had better go to the JRPM ftp site to get the latest ones, if possible.

RPMS
The "RPMS" directory, on the other hand, contains RPMS without Japanese extensions. Those without SRPMS were retrieved from the Apple MkLinux ftp site. Get the latest ones from there, if possible.

In order to download an RPM file with Netscape, move the mouse cursor to a target link and, in the case of Unix, press the right button, or in the case of Mac, keep the mouse button pressed until a context-sensitive menu shows up. Then select "Save Link As" and save the RPM file as "Source".

cernlib
The "cernlib" directory contains CERNLIB98 which requires a license agreement with CERN, thus is password-protected. If you have a license and are interested in using it on your MkLinux box, please contact me.

dis45
The "dis45" directory contains a graphic display application for data analysis using CERNLIB and is again password-protected (with the same password) by the same reason.

jdk
The "jdk" directory contains a Java Developer's Kit ported to MkLinux by the PowerPC JDK porting team. Get the latest from their official web site. Notice that this also requires a license agreement. This directory also contains a Japanization kit.

jlc
The "jlc" directory contains various programs developed for linear collider physics.

netscape
The "netscape" directory contains the famous netscape browser ported to MkLinux. The binary packages were retrieved from the official Netscape mirror site. Get the latest ones from there or other mirrors, if possible. The directory also contains a Japanization kit.

root
The "root" directory contains a fully object-oriented data analysis library called "ROOT" developed by the CERN ROOT team. Unlike CERNLIB, it is free for non-commercial use. Get the latest one from the ROOT download page".

x-v-ft
The "x-v-ft" directory contains a set of packages necessary to introduce VFlib-FreeType features to your X server. The X sever was prepared by S.Amamiya. See his site for details.

xtt
The "xtt" directory contains a set of packages necessary to introduce TrueType features to your X server. The X sever was prepared by M.Utsugi. See his site for details.

Installation Instructions

To use precompiled binaries, you have to first install (pre-)DR3 or update DR2.1 to the latest level with full shared libraries.

Then go to each application's directory.

If you find a file named like

foo-bar-1a.ppc.rpm
what you have to do is
$ rpm -qpl foo-bar-1a.ppc.rpm
to check the installation destination. If you are satisfied, then do
$ su
# rpm -Uvh foo-bar-1a.ppc.rpm
to install the package forcibly, meaning replacing any existing package. If you find a file named like
foo-bin.tar.gz
instead, what you have to do is
$ su
# tar -zxpvf <somewhere>/foo-bin.tar.gz -C /
It is strongly recommended, however, to check the installation destination before doing the above by
$ tar -ztvf <somewhere>/foo-bin.tar.gz
If you do not find one with the -bin modifier, you will have to make the package, following the instructions given in README. In any case the binary files have been tested on my machine (8115/110) but may not work on yours. Install them thus at your own risk.
