Descriptions of the Current Directory
Wnn4.2: Network Extensible Kana-to-Kanji Conversion Server
Japanse Page is here.
News
- Nov 11, 1998: (Wnn6-SDK-1.0-1a) Wnn6 client software
developer's kit prepared as RPM packages.
The information is from (mklinux-jp 10796) by T.Matsuura and
I would like to thank him here.
The package building procedure is given in
its SPEC file.
Some patches were necessary to build a usable runtime
shared library on my MkLinux box.
These patches are available from the SOURCES
subdirectory. The wnn6-sdk_malloc.patch is similar to
Kaoru Fukui's patch for Wnn-4.2 and I am very grateful to him.
- Oct 1, 1998: (Wnn-4.2-7glibc) There is now Nagata's
official version of Wnn-4.2-7glibc available from
the JRPM project.
Use the official version if you haven't yet got it.
- Jul 11, 1998: (Wnn-4.2-7glibc) Rebuilt Nagata's JRPM
with Kaoru Fukui(k_fukui@highway.ne.jp)'s patch:
Wnn_KF001.patch.tar.gz
(cf mklinux-jp 9262).
This patch allows xemacs to use wnn's kana-to-kanji
conversion function.
According to Fukui, the shared library libwnn.so did
not contain malloc-related functions provided with the
wnn source package. This made wnn's library functions
to invoke corresponding malloc-related functions
in xemacs that seemed to be incompatible.
Take a look at Fukui's note (in Japanese)Wnn_KF001.doc for details.
We can now use wnn in xemacs. Many thanks to Kaoru Fukui.
Note also that the RPM packages in this directory are tentative
ones valid only until an official RPM is provided from the
JRPM project, probably by S.Nagata who is the package
maintainer.
- May 28, 1998: (Wnn-4.2-6glibc) Rebuilt the JRPM package
by S.Nagata with minor fixups: somehow, the original
binary RPM didn't provide libwnn.so though it's
contained in the package. Removed some startup
symbolic links in /etc/rc.d/rc*.d from %config.

Installation Instructions
First create user and group "wnn"
- # vi /etc/passwd
- .....
- wnn:*:127:127:Jserver:/usr/local/lib/wnn:
- # vi /etc/group
- .....
- wnn::127:wnn
Then install Wnn:
- # rpm -Uvh Wnn-4.2-7glibc.ppc.rpm
- # rpm -Uvh Wnn-devel-4.2-7glibc.ppc.rpm
where the installation of the development package is optional.
To start jserver, either reboot your system or do
- # /etc/rc.d/init.d/jserver.init start
If you want to use a Wnn6 jserver on a remote host, you may
want to install the Wnn6 clients' runtime library rpm, instead:
- # rpm -Uvh Wnn6-SDK-1.0-1a.ppc.rpm
- # rpm -Uvh Wnn6-SDK-devel-1.0-1a.ppc.rpm
where again the installation of the development package is optional.
Note that the Wnn6 runtime library coexists with the
Wnn-4.2 core package, but the development packages confilicts
with the Wnn-devel-4.2 package.
You can install one of the two at one time.
