Kinput2: Kanji Input Server for X11
Japanese Page is here.
News
- Aug 20, 1998: kinput2-v2fix5_alpha1-1 RPM's are now available.
This version is presumably free from the problem previously
worked around with Honma's filter event patch.
Get it from here, if you want to try it.
Since this is under alpha tests, no links below point
to this alpha version.
Note also that this version is incompatible with the
previous netscape-wrapper.
Redownload today's version from here.
- Mar 26, 1998: kinput2-v2fix4-2 RPM's are now available into which
a patch by Honma has been included to get around
problems encountered when using netscape with
kinput2 running. See
http://nug.nasu-net.or.jp/~honma/netscape/
for details. With this new kinput2, you can specify
Japanese fonts for netscpae's resources such as XmText,
etc., though I haven't succeeded in Japanese input yet.
- Dec 1, 1997: kinput2-v2-fix4-beta2 RPM's are now available,
thanks to Yamaguchi at Univ. of Tokyo. See below.
- Nov 30, 1997: kinput2-v2-fix4-beta2 built with DR2.1update6-shared.
This version is compatible with Wnn.

How to Build Kinput2 from SRC
If you want to build the RPMs for yourself, first extract the source code
and patches in Yamaguchi's SRPM (mklinux-jp 6078):
- # rpm -i <somewhere>/kinput2-v2fix4-1.src.rpm
I have created a patch file from Honma's kinput2-FilterEvent.tar.gz
as kinput2-filterevent.patch.
Put it and kinput2.README in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
- # cp <somewhere>/kinput2.README /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
- # cp <somewhere>/kinput2-filterevent.patch /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES
Then build RPMS with kinput2-v2fix4.spec:
- # cd /usr/src/redhat/SPECS
- # cp <somewhere>/kinput2-v2fix4.spec .
- # rpm -ba kinput2-v2fix4.spec
This creates RPMs:
- kinput2-v2fix4-2.src.rpm
- kinput2-v2fix4-2.ppc.rpm
- kinput2-canna-v2fix4-2.ppc.rpm
- kinput2-canna-wnn-v2fix4-2.ppc.rpm
- kinput2-wnn-v2fix4-2.ppc.rpm
Installation Instructions
In my case, I updated kinput2 using the RPM packages as:
- # rpm -Uvh kinput2-v2fix4-2.ppc.rpm
- # rpm -Uvh kinput2-canna-wnn-v2fix4-2.ppc.rpm
