Spice: A General-Purpose Circuit Simulation Program

[0] News

[1] Origin

http://SunSITE.sut.ac.jp/pub/archives/linux/distributions/redhat/contrib/SRPMS/spice-3f4-3.src.rpm

Additional patches were created:

spice3f4.newdirs.patch
spice3f4.mklinux.patch
to change the installation prefix to "/usr/spice" from "/usr", avoid some undefined references, and work around "segmentation fault".

[2] How to Build Spice from SRC

The RPM building procedure is described in its spec file:
spice-3f4.spec

You can rebuild the RPM using its corresponding SRPM as:

# rpm --rebuild <somewhere>/spice-3f4-4.src.rpm

[3] How to Install Spice

Before installing spice, update your Mklinux to DR2.1update4 or higher: the package requires the full shared library support coming with DR2.1update4 including shared X11 libraries.

Onece the update is completed, the rest is easy:

# rpm -i <somewhere>/spice-3f4-4.ppc.rpm

[4] How to Use Spice

Since the whole package resides /usr/egcs, you need to add "/usr/spice/bin" to your PATH:
$ export PATH=$PATH:/usr/spice/bin
Now you can try some sample circuit examples in "/usr/spice/lib/spice":
$ spice3 -r < /usr/spice/lib/spice/diffpair.cir
This creates "rawspice.raw" which can be viewed as:
$ nutmeg rawspice.raw
Program: nutmeg, version: 3f4
Date built: Sat Jan 24 23:04:40 JST 1998
Type "help" for more information, "quit" to leave.
Loading raw data file ("diffpair.raw") . . . done.
