Descriptions of the Current Directory

News

Jun. 1, 1998: the DR3 directory opened to public! Those who are running recent DR3alpha's may want to try Ported Applications for DR3. Notice that some of the packages there require the latest glibc(>1g), binutils(>2.9.1), egcs(>1.0-2e), and X11R6.3(>1r) to run properly. This directory (dr2.1/shared) will be frozen as of June 1. If you want something new, go to the aforementioned DR3 directory.

Files

This directory contains applications compiled with shared libraries. Directory "yasutome" contains precompiled binaries by Yasutome. You had better go to Yasutome's site to get the latest ones, if possible.

In order to download an RPM file with Netscape, move the mouse cursor to a target link and, in the case of Unix, press the right button, or in the case of Mac, keep the mouse button pressed until a context-sensitive menu shows up. Then select "Save Link As" and save the RPM file as "Source".

Installation Instructions

To use precompiled binaries, you have to first set up shared libraries. To do this look at this and follow the instruction given there.

Then go to each application's directory.

If you find a file named like

foo-bar-1A.ppc.rpm

what you have to do is

# rpm -qpl foo-bar-1A.ppc.rpm

to check the installation destination. If you are satisfied, then do

# rpm -Uvh foo-bar-1A.ppc.rpm

to install the package forcibly, meaning replacing any existing package. If you find a file named like

foo-bin.tar.gz

instead, what you have to do is

$ su

# tar -zxpvf <somewhere>/foo-bin.tar.gz -C /

It is strongly recommended, however, to check the installation destination before doing the above by

$ tar -ztvf <somewhere>/foo-bin.tar.gz

If you do not find one with the -bin modifier, you have to make the package, following the instructions given in README. In any case the binary files have been tested on my machine (8115/110) but may not work on yours. Install them thus at your own risk.
