Preparation

For installing miscelaneous tools like TeX, Ghostscript, etc., it is useful to install a graphical user interface called synaptic, which you can install as follows:

$ su
# apt-get update
# apt-get install synaptic
# apt-get clean
# exit

Use Synaptic to Install/Uninstall Various Packages

Invoke the GUI, browse a list of available packages, select and install whatever packages you need.
