R&D at Hawaii University (S. Parker et.al.)
- Pixel Size 125*34 um2
- 10*30 pixels
- Resolution: 2um for 34um direction
- 30nA/cm2 dark current
- S/N : 65 for normal incident single channel events
- Proposed as a candidate for the upgraded vertex detector for BELLE
- 100% effective area with 10% diode coverage

Future Prospects of Monolithic Pixel Sensor
- Pixel size might be much smaller due to the progress
in the process technique.
Actually, CMOS image sensors are commercially available recently.
- Because MOS sensor is a VLSI, its chip size is limited by VLSI technich
to about 1cm2.
- Combination of high resistive detector grade Si and low resistive
circuit Si causes problems.(large dark current etc.) More R&D effort
is needed.
- If CCDs cannot be used due to radiation damage, CMOS APS should be
considered as an alternative for the innermost layer.
