- Study of Inverted Mode CCDs (much lower dark current)
- Operation at room temperature (Radiation damage OK?)
Study of Radiation Damage
- Radiation damage of CCD is studied by sevral groups
mainly X-ray astro physicists.
- Their reports suggests that CCDs are radiation tolerant up to
109 2MeV protons, corresponding to 1010
neutrons and 1012 electrons.
- However, their study was based on SLOW SCAN readout.
Because effect of radiation damage is a function of temperature,
readout frequency (the faster the better), dark current, etc,
systematic studies are needed.
