TString question

Dear ROOTers,
Since I can't automatically create the streamers etc... (via rootcint)
for a private class which contains a char* data member, I would like
to replace the char* type by a TString* type for the data member;
However, the character string contained in the TString I need to pass
as a char* argument to some other member functions.
How can I achieve this ?
In other words : is there something possible like :

char* ch;
TString* s=new TString("small_test");
ch=(char*)s->GetContents();

If this is not (yet) available I would appreciate if it could be
implemented.

Thanks in advance,
