since you are asking, I'll mention that I am working on the integration
of a lightweight (X11 only, no Motif) GUI package. It has a very extensive
widget set (basically everything you have in, say, Win32) and will be
fully scriptable via the interpreter. All X calls are abstracted via the
single TGXW base class (TGX11 is the X version and TGWin32 is the Win32
implementation of TGXW). Initially we'll release it for X11 only, but
once we have implemented the required member functions in TGWin32 it
should also work on Win32. Porting to other platforms should from
that moment on be quite simple. Only a version of TGXW for the new
platform needs to be implemented.
The time scale for the release in ROOT of these new GUI classes is
for second half of February.
