emacs-like command line editing: alt-d or alt-l

Hi,

I try to erase the next word right from the cursor
by alt-d and root crashes without any comment.

Unfortunately this command is built in my hand ;-)

happens on a sgi multiprocessor machine running IRIX 6.3.
