[I] Paper Status
1) Uozumi-NIM
Discussed a little about English such as tense.
No major discussion about contents.
Drop Yamada-san's present address if it is not known within a few days.
Release updated version on Tuesdsay.
Aim at submitting on Friday with CD-R.
Print KEK preprint, and submit to xxx.
2) Kawagoe-NIM
No discussion. Ready to submit.
Submit at the same time of Uozumi-NIM, also with CD-R.
3) Others
Shower shape data/analysis should be made public.
If Nakata-analysis takes time, just data should be made public first.
xxx or web or KEK-report or ...?
No progress for 4:2 analysis.
[II] Activity/Analysis Reports
1) Kanita-san (Kobe)
Succeeded to see EBCCD signal.
Specs of EBCCD ; made by Hamamatsu, 80man-en
1.2cm x 1.2cm, 512x512 pixels
Vpc = -8kV, gain=1300
Full-frame transfer,
clock = 50kHz, 5sec to read out one frame.
Performances
1p.e. should give 2.6mV output, corresponding to ADC 4counts.
Dark Current = 9counts(RMS) at 1C.
==> Hard to see single photon yet.
Blue LED signal measured.
Image Reconstructed.
Seems good. Start further study.
2) Takeshita-san
1cmx1cmx20cm scintillator array read out with direct-coupled Si/APD.
Number of photons are estimated to be about 100 or less.
==> difficult to see with PIN Si photodiode.
Trying Hamamatsu APD.
5mm-dia., gain=50 with Bias=140V
PreAmp=from Kajino-san (AMY-SAC preamp)
Noise about several mV. Needs further reduction.
Direct signal (beta passing APD) observed to be about 20mV.
Photon signals not yet seen.
Tsukuba once tested APD for fiber-tracking R&D.
Succeeded to see signal (several photo-electrons) at -20C.
... Encouraging information.
3) Sekiguchi-san (work with Fujimoto-san)
Reported on scintillator strip for fine-EM.
Scintillator sizes ; L=20cm, t=2mm, width=10,20,30mm tested.
1mm-dia. WLS fiber embedded in straight-groove.
Response was mapped on mesh of 20(L) x 5(w).
Photoelectron yields;
1.3pe w/o white paint, PET wrapping
3.2pe with white paint, PET wrapping
1cm-width strip gives 4.4pe ==> sufficient for EM-cal.
Non-Uniformity about 5%. ==> Acceptable for EM-cal.
If we do not need sigma-loop,
casting of tile becomes drastically easy and cheap.
4) Ishizawa-san
Re-presented a talk which he gave at APPI2001 workshop.
Contents are Introduction to shower and calorimetry,
Structure of CAL in full simulator,
Response of CAL full simulation, and
Clustering algorithm and performance.
Transparencies are here or link to his page.
This will appear in proceeding of APPI2001 soon.
5) Nakata-san
Status report on his shower-shape analysis.
No significant progress after the last meeting.
Mainly explanation for Miyata-san.
EM orthogonalization OK.
Hadron orthogonalization fails.
==> Non-gaussian fluctuation CAN NOT be treated this way.
Need to make up other function.
Miyata-san is very much interested in EM shower analysis.
He can also give advices to Nakata-san.
6) Fujii very briefly explained KEK status.
One Pb-Ca alloy delivered.
Will be tested ; strength, young modulus, creep.
Two more alloy ordered with different composition ordered.
[III] Plan for the next year.
1) Fujii explained budget request for JFY 2001.
Items are Requested Budget
o SHmax R&D as KEK-Univ. Co-R&D promotion ; 2.9Myen
o SHmax with EBCCD readout ; 2.0Myen
o Fine-granularity EM + multi-pixel HPD readout ; 4.8Myen
o Tile-casting and Lead-alloy study ; 2.5Myen
Comments
o Fujii Guesses that approved amount would be about 60% of the request.
o In the request, photo-detectors are combined with SHmax/CAL, but
actual study will be done separately this year.
Especially EBCCD needs further benchtest itself.
o EM beam test will not be done in 2001.
Basic studies and preps for it will be done.
2) Konan will work on photo-detectors with Kobe.
3) Miyata-san briefly explained Niigata's plan.
o Miyata-san is workin on development of new sensor, and
thinks it is applicable to calorimetry.
o Allister-san need to write one paper.
That, combined with simulation analysis, will be his doctor thesis.
For the paper, doing some beam test and its analysis is good.
o Nakajima-san will be assigned for analysis of existing beam test data.
EM shower analysis will be fine.
o Niigata has experience in CCD R&D.
Nice test bench exists for response mapping with laser.
First think about doing fine-segment EM with Tsukuba as hardware R&D.
4) Kobe will submit Kakenhi-S with photo-detector attached on EM-CAL.
