- Next 2-track separation (June 1-5)
and dE/dX experiments (June 15-19) (Okuno)
- Calorimeter to measure e+/e- energies
- TOF/Cal ---> e/pion/proton, particle ID
- We decided that we would need a good tracking system
in order to know precisely the real distance of e+ and e-
in the 'Baby' chamber. Several options have been discussed
including MWPCs, a hodoscope, a fiber tracker,
a special 2-cell drift chamber, etc, before reaching
the conclusion that a CCD is the best solution, if a CCD
which satisfies our requirements is available.
Kurihara-san will contact Sugimoto-san for
the feasibility/availability of such a CCD system.
- DAQ system of CDC (Watanabe, Nakayoshi)
- We agreed that, as we are planning to have at
least 2 experiments in parallel, we need to
have at least two independent DAQ systems.
- There are at least three options here:
- PCI/TOYO-TECHNICA System
- PCI/KINETIC System
- VME/Unix Based System
all of which are originally developed by the KEK
online group.
We have already the required hardware for the
PCI/TOYO-TECHNICA system including a PC/AT personal
computer, a PCI-CAMAC interface board, and a corresponding
CAMAC crate controller, etc.
For the second option (PCI/KINETIC), which is also
a PCI based CAMAC data taking system, we need to
prepare a KINETIC's interface board and its corresponding
crate controller, which are more expensive than the
first option, a reason why we chose the TOYO-TECHNICA
system as our first choice.
The advantage of this option is that
it has already been prooved to work by the KEK
online group.
The third option (VME/Unix based system) has been
used at KEK/Tanashi and also prooved to work.
In order to use CAMAC modules such as REPIC FADCs,
however, we need a VME-CAMAC bridge and, if we
only use CAMAC modules basically, the use of a VME
system might be an over-kill.
This system is too expensive to purchase ourselves,
but available from the KEK/Tanashi online group.
- Watanabe-san reported the status of his R&D on
our new DAQ system based on the PCI/TOYO-TECHNICA system.
He is now working on the development of a PCI-CAMAC
interface driver. According to his explanations, once
the driver is completed, the rest is a piece of cake for him.
The system is working but with some problems, which
are under investigation. He will continue his investigation
with some assistance from KEK online group experts including
Yasu-san and Nakayoshi-san.
We set the decision date for the feasibility of this
system on March 31, 1999.
Once the feasibility is established and the whole DAQ system
is completed, Watanabe-san proposed to transfer his
responsibility of the DAQ system to somebody else, since
he is too busy to be always on call.
