News
- Oct 7, 1998: new TeX related RPMS retrieved from the JRPM site.
The xdvi RPM is rebult after adjusting button geometry and shrink factors.
latex2html, dviselect, and dviconcat RPMS for PPC are also rebuilt in accordance with
the new TeX RPMS that now reside in /usr rather than /usr/local.
- May 26, 1998: xdvi RPM rebuilt after adjusting button geometry
and shrink factors.
- May 15, 1998: TeX related RPMS retrieved from the JRPM site.
- May 10, 1998: dviselect and dviconcat RPMs for PPC prepared.

Installation Instructions
Install freetype and VFlib2 following the instructions
given in the README file for tt.
You may have to uninstall previous versions of TeX related RPMs,
if any, since 'rpm -Uvh' will not work because of the aforementioned
installation directory change. If you get any 'break dependencies'
error, try 'rpm -e' on the relevant packages in the reverse
order as they were installed (cf. the installation order below).
Then install the above TeX related RPMs in the following order:
- # rpm -Uvh kpathsea-*
- # rpm -Uvh pTeX-*
- # rpm -Uvh asiya-*
- # rpm -Uvh watanabe-*
- # rpm -Uvh vf-*
- # rpm -Uvh pLaTeX2e-*
- # rpm -Uvh LaTeX2e-*
- # rpm -Uvh dvipsk-*
- # rpm -Uvh dviselect-*
- # rpm -Uvh dviconcat-*
- # rpm -Uvh xdvik-20cjp-1a.ppc.rpm
Additional Notes on Latex2html
The latex2html package requires pbm tools contained in
libgr-progs.
Install it first, if you haven't yet:
- # rpm -Uvh <somewhere>/libgr-progs-*
and then install latex2html:
- # rpm -Uvh latex2html-*
To convert a LaTeX file, foobar.tex to HTML, do:
- $ latex2html -local_icons foobar.tex
This creates a directory named "foobar" containing
html and associate image files.
Try
- $ latex2html -h
to get help.
Known Problems
- "eqnarray" does not work proerly. I applied a patch to
make latex2html process "eqnarray", since it did not
produce any image file for corresponding equations.
Nevertheless, when you use "eqnarray" you will not
get equation numbers even with this patch.
Possible workaround is to use "equation" instead of
"eqnarray" wherever possible:
- $ mv foobar.tex foobar.tex.ORIG
- $ sed -e 's|\\begin{eqnarray}|\\begin{equation}\\begin{array}{lll
}|' \
- -e 's|\\end{eqnarray}|\\end{array}\\end{equation}|' \
- foobar.tex.ORIG > foobar.tex
- Use EUC to convert Japanese LaTeX files, or conversion fails.
